Piwakawaka, the NZ Fantail

Inspired by our Piwakawaka, the energetic little Fantail. This pretty bird is regarded as one of the friendliest native birds in the forest. They often flitter within a few meters of people – in search of small flying insects that may have been disturbed by human activity.  They have a small head and bill and a long tail which opens to a fan, giving the bird its name.
